2019 Season - Fifth Anniversary
Each summer, the internationally acclaimed Faculty Artists of the Rushmore Music Festival who mentor the talented students at the 3-week Summer Academy, present a professional concert series in the Black Hills of South Dakota. This summer, the Festival will present THREE unique programs, "Sonata in Time”, “Colors // Textures”, and “Czech Tales”, each to be performed once at BHSU’s Meier Hall in Spearfish and once at the First Presbyterian Church in Rapid City for three consecutive weekends.
"Sonata in Time”— (July 6 & 7) The first program will highlight an eclectic selection of duo repertoire that represents the progression of the “Sonata” form from the Baroque period to the Romantic period.
Programmed works include: Handel Sonata for Two Cellos in C Major, Beethoven Violin Sonata No.4 in A minor, Op.23, and Brahms Cello Sonata No.2, Op.99.
“Colors // Textures”— (July 13 & 14) The second program will represent the endless variety of textures and colors, all juxtaposed into one unforgettable evening! This program will feature Grammy-winning bandoneonist Hector del Curto performing a variety of concert tango repertoire, a World Premiere by RMF Composer-in-Residence Symeon Waseen, and a side-by-side performance of a Summer Academy student Avagail Hulbert with the RMF Faculty.
Programmed works include: Beethoven String Quartet No. 5 in A major, Op. 18, Waseen Piano Trio, Cassadó “Requiebros” for Cello and Piano, and various selections by Piazzolla and del Curto.
“Czech Tales” — (July 20 & 21) The final program will feature a cello-centric, luscious selection of 19th and 20th century chamber music by Czech composers, concluding the season with one of the most beloved works of all chamber music repertoire.
Programmed works include: Janáček “Pohádka” for Cello and Piano, Martinů Sonata for Cello & Piano No. 2, H. 286 and Dvořák Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major, Op. 81.
